The Liuying District Farmers' Association in Tainan City has officially begun selling the locally developed new rice variety "Tainan No. 19 Taro-Scented Moonlight Rice"! Mayor Huang Wei-che, together with Liuying District Farmers' Association Chairman Tsai Kun-cheng and Director-General Chen You-hsin, held a launch event for the new rice yesterday (the 17th) at the plaza of the Shin Kong Life Tower in Taipei, introducing to urban residents the premium Taro-Scented Moonlight Rice cultivated by the Tainan District Agricultural Research and Extension Station. With its full complement of color, aroma, and taste, it is the top choice for making premium sushi and can be called a masterpiece of the rice world, winning the favor of consumers purchasing high-quality rice.

Mayor Huang Wei-che stated that Koshihikari rice, of which Japanese people are proud, is the finest choice for making sushi. Liuying is not only a well-known dairy farming area but also produces rice with the good texture of Koshihikari and an additional taro aroma, making it an upgraded version of Koshihikari known as Taro-Scented Moonlight Rice. He sincerely thanked the Tainan District Agricultural Research and Extension Station and experts and scholars for their research and development, enabling the highly competitive Taro-Scented Moonlight Rice to be successfully cultivated and produced in Liuying. He believes that in the future, this upgraded version of Koshihikari, when marketed to Japan, will also be deeply loved by local consumers.

The Liuying District Farmers' Association stated that Tainan No. 19 Taro-Scented Moonlight Rice is a locally developed new rice variety derived from crossing Tainan No. 16 Koshihikari Rice with Tainan No. 13 Taro-Scented Rice. It has the chewy, springy texture of Tainan No. 16 Koshihikari Rice and carries a hint of the fresh fragrance of taro-scented rice. Even when served cold, its chewiness remains unchanged. It is the top choice for making premium sushi and can be called a masterpiece of the rice world and the aristocrat of the dining table.
