Nantou Tea Expo Holds First Thousand-Person Lei Cha Event to Widespread Praise
At the 2019 Nantou World Tea Expo, to let more people experience the fun of lei cha, this year the Hakka lei cha event was expanded into the "Nantou HAKKA - A Thousand People Together Making Lei Cha" activity, so everyone could feel the Hakka village flavor and local charm. On the afternoon of the 13th, a thousand people gathered on the large field at Zhongxing New Village, where adults and children worked together taking turns making lei cha, exclaiming that their hands were sore but it was great fun, and the atmosphere on site was very joyful.
The event officially began after a performance by the Nantou County Panpipe Ensemble. County Magistrate Lin Ming-chen, Deputy County Magistrate Chen Cheng-sheng, Yuchi Township Chief Liu Chi-fan, Nantou County Agriculture Director Chen Jui-ching, Cultural Affairs Director Lin Jung-sen, Tourism Director Wang Yuan-chung and others all took the stage to demonstrate the lei cha process, while many teachers below provided guidance, allowing all participating members of the public to truly experience the fun of lei cha.
As soon as the event began, everyone eagerly took turns pouring tea leaves, peanuts, sesame, brown rice and other ingredients into the lei cha bowls, grinding them into powder with lei cha sticks, then pouring in hot water, stirring well and immediately drinking. Most adults found it tasty, but some children who were not used to the flavor immediately changed expression, making their parents roar with laughter, and many also used their phones to record the rare lei cha experience.
County Magistrate Lin Ming-chen said that the thousand-person lei cha was an innovative activity at the tea expo, and it was deeply loved by everyone from its very first holding. Registration filled up just 5 minutes after opening, and many people nearby hoped they could sign up on site. Next year, consideration will be given to continuing and even expanding the event, so that traditional Hakka culture can continue to be passed down. The Nantou Tea Expo has now attracted nearly 300,000 visits, and sales have already surpassed 40 million yuan. There is still one more week to go, and everyone is encouraged to seize the opportunity to taste quality Nantou tea and agricultural products.
