Reducing Food Waste to Help the Disadvantaged: Taichung City Food Bank Newly Opens

Following Fengyuan and Shalu, Taichung City's third Loving Food Bank grandly opened yesterday (the 4th) at the Jiaxing Social Welfare Comprehensive Building in Dali District. Upholding the spirit of not wasting food and combining it with care for the disadvantaged, it provides three meals to those in urgent need through city government procurement, enthusiastic enterprises and private donations. Peng Huaizhen, Director of the Taichung City Social Affairs Bureau, stated that distribution stations have been set up in every administrative district across the city, 34 in total, and residents of Taichung in need are welcome to apply.

The Taichung City Social Affairs Bureau stated that the Taichung City Loving Food Bank currently has three physical storefronts: the Fengyuan Store, the Shalu Store and the Dali Store. Distribution stations have been set up in every administrative district across the city, with 34 distribution points in total. Food packages are distributed on the last Saturday of each month, providing three meals for unemployed people, families hit by misfortune, or those in urgent need of food assistance.

Director Peng Huaizhen stated that in addition to providing food assistance to help disadvantaged households, the Dali Store will also display the history of the Taichung City Loving Food Bank and set up a space for surplus food education and exchange, in the hope of promoting the ideas of not wasting food and loving what we have to help the poor.

The Taichung City Social Affairs Bureau stated that residents of Taichung in need may bring proof of residence, household registration documents and other relevant documents to apply at the district office of the area where they live.
