The classic caudiciform succulent ornamental "Desert Rose"

Desert Rose, also known as Adam's flower, Tianbao flower, and dwarf frangipani (commonly called "dwarf plumeria"), belongs to the genus Adenium in the dogbane family Apocynaceae. It is native to East Africa, southwestern Africa, and the Arabian Peninsula, including Angola, Namibia, and Madagascar.

In its native habitat, Desert Rose can grow into a small tree up to 2 m tall, with a thick, fleshy stem and a swollen base shaped like a wine bottle. The bark is pale green to grayish brown. The leaves are alternate at the tips of the branches, with short stalks, lanceolate, wedge-shaped at the base, bright green and glossy on the upper surface, pale green and rather rough beneath, 3-10 cm long and 1.8-3 cm wide, and they normally fall during the winter dormant period. The flowers are borne in umbel-like clusters of 2-10, trumpet-shaped. There are many horticultural cultivars, with variegated and crinkled leaves; flower colors range from white, pink, and purplish red to almost black dark red, as well as bicolors and more, extremely rich in variety. It blooms twice a year, from April to May and from September to October.

The Desert Rose plant is short, with an ancient, rugged, and vigorous form; its flowers are beautiful, the flower shape is elegant, and it blooms well; it is vigorous and well suited to home cultivation. Its distinctive character and approachable nature make it deeply loved by people.

Desert Rose prefers a hot, dry environment with plenty of sunlight. It tolerates intense heat but not cold, tolerates drought, and dislikes waterlogging. A calcium-rich, well-drained sandy loam is suitable; the optimum growth temperature is 22-25°C. In summer it can be placed outdoors for cultivation with ample watering and fertilizing. In winter, keeping the room temperature above 10°C and the potting soil slightly dry allows it to overwinter safely. When the plant grows too tall, it needs to be cut back to encourage branching and keep the plant compact. Usually, pay attention to thinning and pruning to make its shape even more graceful.
