Cabbage planting rush strikes again, supply exceeds warning level by 30% and hits "purple alert," farmers fear a November collapse
Cabbage planting rush erupts again, flashing the purple alert! Farmers saw that cabbage prices were good this year, and days of heavy rain pushed the replanting period into alignment. The number of cabbage seedlings supplied in all three ten-day periods of August exceeded the reasonable range and flashed red warnings repeatedly, with seedlings supplied in late August reaching 7.13 million plants. The cabbage growing period is about 70 days, and this wave of planting is expected to enter the harvest period in early November, which could trigger an oversupply problem and cause an imbalance between production and sales.
After heavy rain in the south, vegetable prices rose, triggering a cabbage planting rush. Some farmers said that this year the "production registration system" was launched for the first time, with the government subsidizing fertilizer and also offering guaranteed-price purchases, "so farmers' willingness to invest in production is of course high!" But some farmers sensed the collapse crisis in advance and switched to other crops early.
In response, the Agriculture and Food Agency emphasized that although the registration system guarantees a purchase price of at least 6 yuan per kilogram, the vegetable fields must meet the purchase product specifications, and the cabbages must all have commercial value, "no more than half can be insect-bitten or have rotten leaves." At the same time, it called on farmers to assess sales channels and risks before entering the market, and to spread out planting, reduce planting, or follow crop rotation plans. Do not rush to plant all at once, lest a price collapse affect their own returns.

Cabbage seedling warning "purple alert" has exceeded the warning level by 1.7 million plants
Xu Huifei, head of the Crop Production Section of the Agriculture and Food Agency, said that farmers generally planted cabbage seedlings one after another in August, but in the first half of the month central and southern Taiwan were successively affected by the two typhoons Lekima and Bailu, and the southwest airflow brought days of heavy rain. Agricultural losses in central and southern Taiwan were severe, and planting in plain production areas was difficult. After the weather became slightly more stable in late August, a concentrated planting rush appeared.
The number of cabbages supplied by seedling nurseries in late August was 7.13 million plants, already exceeding the "warning level of 5.4 million plants" benchmark, so the Agriculture and Food Agency continued to strengthen early warning notices and advise farmers
