Maintenance and Management Methods for Several Flowers During the Flower Bud Differentiation Period
As is well known, flower bud differentiation usually goes through two stages, namely the physiological differentiation stage and the morphological differentiation stage. During the process of flower bud differentiation, light, humidity, water and fertilizer, and so on play a very important role in flower bud differentiation, so how should they be managed? The following is a brief discussion of the management key points for the following flowers during this period.
Wintersweet
(1) After the flowers fade in April, sufficient base fertilizer should be applied, preferably an organic fertilizer mixture of fermented and thoroughly decomposed chicken manure and superphosphate.
(2) From June to August is the flower bud differentiation period and bud pregnancy period of wintersweet, and it is an important period for maintenance. A nitrogen-phosphorus-potassium compound fertilizer mainly based on phosphorus should be applied as a top dressing 1 to 2 times, while attention should be paid to loosening the soil, weeding, and preventing the soil from becoming too wet.
(3) After the leaves fall in autumn, a light fertilizer should be applied as a top dressing 1 to 2 times to promote plump flower buds, abundant flowers, and a strong fragrance.
Chrysanthemum
(1) The vegetative growth stage of chrysanthemums is spring and summer. At this time, sufficient light and a supply of fertilizer rich in nitrogen and potassium should be ensured, so that the branches and leaves are luxuriant and the root system is well developed.
(2) In the reproductive growth stage, flower bud differentiation begins in mid-to-late August. During the period of flower bud growth, the number of light hours should be limited, and more phosphorus-containing fertilizer should be applied.
(3) After the Beginning of Autumn, the amount and frequency of fertilization for chrysanthemums should be gradually increased, so as to dwarf the plants and improve disease resistance.
Camellia
(1) From March to April, most camellias have finished flowering, and the nutrients of the tree body are heavily consumed. At this time, fertilization should mainly be nitrogen fertilizer, so as to restore the tree's vigor, promote new root growth, and produce more new shoots.
(2) From May to June, the new branches mature and begin to enter the flower bud differentiation stage. From April to June, the top dressing should mainly be phosphorus fertilizer, so as to meet the plant's needs for bud pregnancy.
(3) The appearance of buds on the plant does not mean that all flowers will open well. The flower buds need to grow on the plant for seven to eight months before flowering, and dead buds and dropped buds often occur. From July to August, apply a bud-preserving fertilizer mainly based on phosphorus as a top dressing, and the fertilization concentration should be light.
(4) From October to November, camellia enters its second growth peak period again, the flower buds rapidly expand, and flowering begins. The top dressing should mainly be phosphorus and potassium fertilizer.
Osmanthus
(1) In early spring, from February to March, it sprouts and grows new branches. In June, the new branches are semi-lignified. In August, flower bud differentiation occurs. A light fertilizer mainly based on phosphorus and potassium should be applied 1 to 2 times to promote flower bud differentiation and bud pregnancy. The organic fertilizer applied must be fermented and thoroughly decomposed, and the concentration of the chemical fertilizer applied should not be too high: urea at 0.5%, and superphosphate at 2%. It should be poured evenly into the soil.
(2) After the flowers fade, thoroughly decomposed organic fertilizer should also be applied.
(3) In winter, a mixed fertilizer of soybean cake and superphosphate should be applied, so as to ensure the nutritional needs for new shoot growth and flower bud differentiation in the coming year. This is the key to how many flowers osmanthus will produce.
At different stages of growth and development of flower plants, it is best to carry out balanced fertilization and use special fertilizers, so as to meet the nutritional needs of the flowers and promote them to bloom ideal flowers.
