Which flowers are not suitable to keep indoors

Many people like to keep some flowers and plants at home to add charm while also hoping to become healthier. But some flowers and plants can harm the body if placed indoors, so attention should be paid to this.

1. Flowers that contain certain toxins

Such flowers include the cactus family, mimosa, poinsettia, oleander, yellow azalea and zhuangyuanhong (Chinese ixora). Folk tradition calls evergreen (lily-of-the-valley) "dumb stick," and there is a saying that the flower is beautiful but the poison is hard to bear. Testing has determined that it contains certain toxic enzymes, and its stem and leaf sap is strongly irritating to the skin.

2. Flowers with a strong fragrance or a pungent odor

For example, the rich fragrance of peony can make a person listless, weak and short of breath; pine and cypress species give off a rather strong pine-resin smell, and breathing it in for a long time can cause loss of appetite and nausea; night-blooming jasmine, tulips and the like have a strong scent that becomes unbearable after long exposure; famous flowers such as narcissus and rose have a fragrance that assails the senses, and smelling these flower scents for a long time, especially while sleeping, can also make a person feel uncomfortable.

3. Flowers that cause allergic reactions

For example, Chinese rose, lantana, hydrangea, geranium and redbud all have allergenic properties. Touching them often causes skin allergies, and in severe cases red rashes appear with unbearable itching.
