Methods of fertilizing flowers and plants

Base fertilizer: Organic fertilizer and granular inorganic compound fertilizer are mostly used as base fertilizer. Before plowing the land, spread it evenly on the surface, and mix it with the soil by plowing and preparing the land. Base fertilizer plays an important role in improving the physical properties of the soil.

Topdressing: Topdressing is carried out several times during the growing period of flowers and plants. Generally, the first topdressing is applied after flowers and plants sprout in spring to promote lush branches and leaves; before flowering, a second topdressing is applied to promote flowering; after flowering, a third topdressing is applied to replenish the nutrients consumed during the flowering period. Inorganic fertilizer is commonly used for topdressing. Common topdressing methods include furrow application, hole application, application combined with irrigation, as well as foliar feeding and ring-shaped fertilization.

The commonly used furrow application means digging shallow furrows between the rows of flowers and plants, placing the fertilizer inside, covering with soil, and then watering. Hole application means digging holes on both sides of the plant within the root distribution area, applying fertilizer, then covering with soil and watering. For foliar feeding, inorganic fertilizer should be used, and the concentration of the fertilizer solution used should not be too high; it should be controlled at about 0.2%-0.5%.

Because various nutrient elements have different mobility in the soil, different fertilizers are applied at different depths in the soil. Nitrogen fertilizer has poor mobility in the soil, so it is suitable for deep application into the root zone.
