Warming Up for Taiwan Design Expo: Pingtung Comic Exhibition Opens

To warm up for the Taiwan Design Expo in Pingtung in October, the "2019 Pingtung Comic Exhibition" officially opened on August 28 at the Pingtung Martial Arts Hall, bringing together 30 CG illustrators and comic artists from across Taiwan, with a COSPLAY contest and fan-fiction creative market held on the 31st and September 1, the last weekend before summer vacation ends, letting young pop culture drive the city's vitality.

The Pingtung County Cultural Affairs Department invited Professor Zhang Chongjin of the Department of Cultural and Creative Industries at National Pingtung University, also a well-known local comic artist, to curate the exhibition. The 2019 Pingtung Comic Exhibition is titled "Martial Arts Youth, Passionate Pingtung," and in keeping with the newly restored Pingtung Martial Arts Hall as the exhibition venue, it takes "kendo" as its theme and has invited 16 young CG illustrators including REI, Yaoyue, and Miqi Man, connecting local perspectives with 14 well-known comic artists from across the country in a joint exhibition.

In addition to the wonderful works by illustrators and comic artists, the venue features a four-panel interactive comic where visitors can freely fill in the blanks with their own creativity and have a chance to win limited-edition merchandise for free. On the morning of Saturday the 31st, caricature artists are invited to draw Q-style comic portraits for visitors for free, and at the same time a unique COSPLAY contest will be held in the outdoor plaza. On the mornings of Saturday and Sunday, September 7 and 8, lectures will be held at the Pingtung Art Museum, where well-known comic artists will share their comic creation experiences. The comic exhibition runs from the 28th to September 22, so comic fans should not miss this grand event.
