Using Clever Methods to Control the Three Major Flower Pests

As environmental awareness grows, people increasingly desire to find an efficient, non-toxic, and eco-friendly alternative to pesticides. The author has worked in landscaping for 12 years and, based on accumulated experience, specifically introduces several methods for controlling flower pests using common household items.

1 Control of Aphids

Washing powder can kill aphids, whiteflies, and others. When using it, dilute 5g of washing powder with 80g of warm water, stir well, and spray it on the pests at the affected parts of the plant, with an interval of 3 to 5 days each time, for 3 consecutive times.

Take 50g of fresh chili peppers, add 50 to 100g of water, boil in a pot for half an hour, then filter. Take the filtrate and spray it on the pests at the affected parts of the plant, with an interval of 6 to 7 days each time, for 3 consecutive times.

Mix washing powder, urea, and water in a ratio of 1:100:100, stir well, and then spray it on the pests at the affected parts of the plant, with an interval of 7 to 8 days each time, for 3 consecutive times.

Take 1kg of Welsh onion, add 0.5kg of water, mash and extract the juice, dilute the juice with 6kg of water, stir the two well, and then spray it on the affected plants, with an interval of 3 to 5 days each time, for 3 consecutive times.

2 Control of Scale Insects

The infusion of onion or garlic can control scale insects. When using it, take 2 garlic bulbs, mash them, add 2kg of water, and soak for half a day. Then take the clear liquid and spray it on the affected parts, once every 3 to 4 days, for 3 consecutive days to kill all the pests. Moreover, it also has a bactericidal effect, inhibiting the reproduction and spread of pathogens.

Repeatedly wiping the affected plant gently with 75% alcohol can kill both adults and larvae at the same time. This method is only suitable for use when the pest index is low or there are few potted seedlings, and is not suitable for large-scale planting or when the pest index is high.

Mix washing powder, diesel oil, and water in a ratio of 0.3:5:3 to make a milk-like stock solution, then add 1 times the amount of water to make a diluted solution containing 30% oil and spray it. After 7 days, most of the pests can be seen shriveled and turning brown before dying.

Mix 1 part baijiu with 2 parts water, and water the surface layer of the potting soil thoroughly, once every half a month, for 4 consecutive times to kill most of the pests.

Add about 30 cigarette butts to 500g of water and soak for a day and a night. After filtering, add a little soap solution and it can be sprayed. It is effective against the nymphs of scale insects.

3 Control of Red Spider Mites

Dilute essential balm 600 to 800 times, then spray it on the affected plants, with an interval of 3 to 5 days each time, for 3 consecutive times, to kill the nymphs of red spider mites; take a solution of 1kg of fresh cow urine added to 25kg of water, then spray it on the affected plants, killing pests quickly and thoroughly; take 10g of washing powder, 13ml of 20% concentration caustic soda, and 6.5kg of water to make a mixed solution, then spray it on the affected plants, spraying twice in a row to kill all the pests; place a lit mosquito coil in the plant pot, tie the plant together with the pot tightly using a plastic bag, and after fumigating for 1 hour, open it, and all the pests will be dead.
