Flower potting soil preparation techniques

The best raw material for flower cultivation substrate is peat soil, but it is relatively expensive. In order to reduce production costs, the substrate raw materials for general potted flowers and herbaceous flowers mostly use pond mud, coconut coir, leaf mold, river sand, yellow mud, etc. The potting soil substrate prepared for potted flowers is required to be loose, fertile, with good drainage and air permeability, and also with good water retention and fertilizer retention capacity. When preparing, it should be flexibly controlled according to the habits of the flowers and the characteristics of the potting soil materials.

1. For the ratio of ordinary potting soil, leaf mold or turf soil, fine sandy soil, decomposed organic fertilizer, and superphosphate are commonly used as raw materials, with a formula of 10:7:2:1. Mix them evenly in proportion and sift to obtain the soil. This kind of potting soil is neutral to slightly acidic, and is often used as a substrate for flower sowing, transplanting, sowing, potting division, and cuttings.

2. Add 0.2% sulfur powder to the ratio of ordinary potting soil. This kind of potting soil is acidic and is suitable for cultivating acid-loving flowers such as camellias, orchids, Aglaia odorata, rhododendrons, and jasmine.

3. Add 10% limestone gravel to the ratio of ordinary potting soil. This kind of potting soil is alkaline and is suitable for cultivating succulent flowers such as cacti and cactus balls.
