Correct Ways to Handle Fertilizer Burn in Flowers and Plants
After fertilizing flowers and plants, the following symptoms appear: branches and leaves wilt rapidly, and leaf color loses its green; the root system changes color or rots. These are signs of fertilizer burn, and the following measures can be taken:
1. Soil replacement method: After removing the affected flower or tree from its pot, rinse the root system with clean water, and at the same time cut away the damaged part of the root system, and also cut away part of the branches and leaves. Then completely replace the growing soil, repot it, and water thoroughly. Place it in a shady spot and spray water 3-5 times a day until the flower or tree resumes normal growth.
2. Thorough watering method: For valuable flowers and trees or those with tender roots, water the affected flowers and trees continuously 2-3 times to flush out the highly concentrated fertilizer solution in the pot.
3. Soaking method: Place the affected potted flower or tree in clean water and soak for 1-2 hours, preferably using running clean water, with the water surface 3-5 cm above the pot rim, so as to quickly reduce the fertilizer content of the potting soil.
