How is the Jinxing mango variety? Differences from Heixiang mango and harvest season
The Jinxing mango variety was developed by Mr. Hou Jinxing of Nanhua Township, Tainan County (salute to him), using the Irwin variety as the mother and Keitt as the father, successfully bred through hybridization. It is a major breakthrough and pioneering achievement in agricultural development.
Its advantages are strong disease resistance in the tree itself, red-skinned fruit, bright and vivid color, and it is an excellent variety that keeps very well after harvest. The fruit is large, each weighing about 2 Taiwan jin (the larger ones exceed 3 Taiwan jin), with fine flesh and a sweetness of 14-15 degrees. It is the finest of fruits and greatly loved by consumers, with a storage life of about 10 days.
The bright red skin of the Jinxing mango is just like that of the Irwin mango, and its rich aroma is no less than that of the Irwin mango. Its biggest feature is that it is astonishingly large! This is the variety invented by Uncle Xing.
The seed of the Jinxing mango is smaller than that of the Irwin, and the whole fruit is packed with flesh. The texture is similar to the Irwin, with a little less fiber, making it very satisfying to eat. The harvest season is around late June to early July. Although the Tainan District Agricultural Improvement Station has now encouraged planting, the plants are still small and cannot yet be produced on a large scale. It is expected to appear on the public market after the 95th year of the Republic of China, and it is the rising star of Taiwan mangoes.
Heixiang
Heixiang is a variety that was already introduced during the Japanese occupation period. When ripe, the whole fruit is green. Although its appearance is not particularly good, it is very sweet and has a very unique longan aroma, and its texture is also quite fine. However, Taiwanese people do not like all-green mangoes, so only a very small amount is grown. The harvest season is after late July.
