How to choose hydroponic flowers
Recently, hydroponic flowers have become highly favored for their superior ornamental and decorative qualities, but when purchasing hydroponic flower materials, attention should be paid to:
1. Choose suitable flower species. First, choose flower species that are suitable for hydroponic cultivation. If you buy species that are not suitable for hydroponic cultivation and plant them, they will soon rot at the roots and gradually die. Second, choose flower species with relatively strong cold resistance. Although some flowers are very suitable for hydroponic cultivation, they need relatively high temperatures to overwinter, and it is difficult for them to survive the winter safely in an ordinary home, where they often suffer freezing damage and die. For example, those with relatively strong cold resistance that can overwinter with only a little cold protection include: Monstera deliciosa (split-leaf philodendron), Tradescantia pallida (purple heart), aloe, spider plant, Cyperus alternifolius (umbrella plant), Senecio cineraria (dusty miller), Chloranthus spicatus, Campanumoea javanica, English ivy, Chamaedorea elegans (parlor palm), Rhapis excelsa (broadleaf lady palm), and others.
2. Choose planting materials that have already adapted to hydroponic conditions. Even flower species suitable for hydroponic cultivation must still go through a process of adaptation. Some flower plants are taken out of the soil and immediately supplied to flower markets. Although they may appear to be growing normally, this must be discerned when purchasing. Having already adapted to hydroponic cultivation means plant materials that have already been cultivated in water for a period of time, can adapt to hydroponic conditions, and are growing normally. Their characteristics are that the branches and leaves are vigorous and upright, the leaves are plump and glossy, and the roots or stem bases have already grown root systems adapted to hydroponic conditions.
3. Choose robust plants free of pests and diseases. Such plants are not only conducive to normal growth after hydroponic cultivation, but also help to display the ornamental effect that the flowers should have.
