Application of peat soil in potted flower production

Peat soil is an important growing medium in high-grade greenhouse potted flower production. It has high water-holding capacity, good aeration, low bulk density and is rich in organic matter, which is beneficial for the long-distance transport of potted flowers. In developed countries, peat soil is widely used as a growing medium in flower production.

According to the growth needs of different flowers, peat soil can be mixed with perlite and vermiculite to formulate different growing media.

1. For planting potted flowers and ornamental plants that require high water-holding capacity, a growing medium can be formulated with peat soil, perlite and vermiculite at a ratio of 2:1:1.

2. For potted flowers and seedling-growing media that are drought-tolerant and require low water-holding capacity, a mix of peat soil, perlite and vermiculite at a ratio of 1:1:1 can be used.

3. Peat soil is acidic. When formulating a growing medium, 2 kg of superphosphate and an appropriate amount of slow-release fertilizer need to be added per cubic meter of the formulated medium, which helps to adjust the pH of the medium and increase its nutrients.
