Taitung promotes low-carbon micro-travel: tourists share public transport in response to a low-carbon lifestyle

The 2019 Taiwan International Balloon Festival is in full swing. Because Taitung is long and narrow in shape, most people get around by car or scooter. The Taitung County Environmental Protection Bureau is promoting low-carbon micro-travel, encouraging the public to use the summer vacation to arrange a low-pollution Taitung micro-trip and choose public transport for the round trip. This not only avoids the misery of traffic jams but also avoids the fatigue caused by long-distance driving, reducing carbon and protecting the environment while traveling.

The Taitung County Environmental Protection Bureau said Taitung can be called the hottest tourist area in the country and has also been recommended by international travel websites and magazines. Taitung can be divided into two major travel routes: the Longitudinal Valley mountain line and the East Coast sea line. The Environmental Protection Bureau suggests taking the Dingdong Bus mountain line or Taiwan Tourist Shuttle - Longitudinal Valley Luye Line to take part in the international hot air balloon event. On the East Coast line, visitors can reach scenic spots along the East Coast, such as Sanxiantai, Xiaoyeliu, Jinzun, Dulan Sugar Factory and Donghe buns, with unique and diverse geographical landscapes, ecology and rich indigenous culture.

The Taitung County Environmental Protection Bureau pointed out that for the sustainable development of the environment, a low-carbon lifestyle will be the mainstream. Data show that conventional engine cars produce an average of 25.7 kg of carbon dioxide emissions per person per 100 kilometers, fuel scooters 12.7 kg, but buses only 4.8 kg. The public is welcome to respond by using lower-pollution means of transport for travel, such as trains, buses and other public transport, to cool the Earth together.
