The Yuwen mango was selected and bred in the 84th year of the Republic of China by Mr. Guo Wenzhong, a fruit farmer from Yujing Township, Tainan County. Before this, Mr. Guo Wenzhong had an interest in fruit tree varieties (not limited to mangoes). Based on observing that seeds of many fruit trees produce variation after sowing, he believed that mangoes were even more likely to produce good results.

In the 70s of the Republic of China, he began using Jinhuang mango as the female parent and Irwin mango as the male parent to breed nineteen varieties, Yuwen No. 1 to No. 19. Among them, Yuwen No. 6 had excellent quality, and after evaluation it was named "Yuwen No. 6" after the first character of Yujing Township and his own name.

Today people outside all call it "Yuwen," because its fruit shape and appearance are similar to Jinhuang mango, with the only difference being the red skin, so it is also called "Red Jinhuang."

The fruit of the "Yuwen mango" is as large as the Jinhuang mango, has the brilliant red fruit color of the Irwin mango, and is high in sweetness with a rich fragrance. The fruit is large and long, with a sugar content of about 15.1%. Its texture is similar to that of the Irwin mango, its acidity is lower than that of the Irwin mango, and its stone is smaller and thinner than that of the Jinhuang mango.

Yuwen No. 6 has a large fruit, red skin, and vivid color. Its fruit color is the most beautiful among all mango varieties. The flesh is fine, with almost no fiber, very low acidity, good flavor, and strong aroma. Its flesh is finer than that of the Irwin mango.
