Yilan Is a Museum 07"The Coral Dharma Realm, the "Home. Museum" guarding Nanfang'ao's coral culture

Text / Chang Ya-yun

Walking into the small alleys of Nanfang'ao in the afternoon, there are always surprises amid the wandering. There are long-established pork stalls, old-style Chinese medicine shops and quilt shops, and of course rice cake shops and seafood snack stalls packed with customers. The air carries the unique fishy freshness and heavy oiliness of a fishing port. This is the everyday life of a small place.

Note 1: In 2012, the Lanyang Museum published the book "Home, This Is a Museum: A Guide to the Yilan Museum Family," introducing the stories of 12 family museums. Among the 12 museum stories, some use their own homes as museums, some are run with family involvement, and there are also community museums that create new meaning for their homeplaces. Author Huang Shu-ying said the book's title uses a pun on the Mandarin word "home" and the Taiwanese word "tsia" (here), which sound the same, to highlight the role of small local museums, and the "Coral Dharma Realm Museum" is the prototype of a home museum.
