Chenglong Wetlands in Kouhu Township, Yunlin County was originally farmland. Because of its low-lying terrain and excessive groundwater pumping, the land subsided severely, allowing seawater to flow back in and forming wetlands. Under Taiwan, China's first "ecological fallow" policy, the Forestry Bureau has leased about 62 hectares of it since 2005 for wetland conservation.
