Can bowl lotus be grown without soil? These bonsai are suitable for placement in the bedroom
Many gardening friends like to grow bowl lotus in pots, but they generally use pond mud as the substrate and then pour in clean water to grow it. Bowl lotus generally maintains vigorous growth and blooming in an environment where pond mud and water coexist, and the care and management process is also very simple, even with rough care in the short term, no adverse conditions will appear. So, can bowl lotus be grown without soil?

In fact, bowl lotus can also be grown without soil, but several conditions need to be met. If there is no substrate at all and bowl lotus is grown purely in water, the roots of the bowl lotus will not be able to anchor, and the entire plant will float in the water, drifting around like a homeless wandering child with nothing to rely on, so its growth will naturally be poor.
First, we need to prepare a flower pot of appropriate size, but do not use a transparent glass pot, because the roots of bowl lotus are afraid of light, otherwise it is not good for its growth. It is generally recommended to use a ceramic pot that light cannot pass through the pot wall, and the bottom should not have a drainage hole, to avoid water flowing out from the bottom. Even if the pot bottom has holes, they must be blocked very tightly to avoid water leakage.
Second, the amount of water in the pot should be appropriate, and the water depth should be controlled well, so that the roots of the bowl lotus just touch the bottom while the leaves just stay level with the water surface. Also, in the early stage of pot cultivation, the water should be changed regularly and frequently, and it is best to change the water once a week. After about three consecutive weeks, once the bowl lotus has a certain water-purifying ability, the frequency of water changes can be appropriately reduced, but water should be added appropriately according to the growth of the bowl lotus to ensure it can support its stems and leaves.
Third, although we do not use pond mud at the bottom of the pot, in order to prevent the plant from floating and drifting around in the pot, it is recommended to spread a layer of perlite on the bottom of the pot, or put in some pebbles. The main purpose of doing this is to anchor the roots of the bowl lotus, prevent it from drifting around, and at the same time better promote the growth of the bowl lotus. Moreover, placing some perlite or pebbles at the bottom of the pot can also serve as a certain decoration, and to a certain extent improve the ornamental value of the potted plant.
Finally, in order to ensure that the bowl lotus can maintain vigorous growth and also bloom with beautiful flowers, we also need to use a little nutrient solution for it appropriately. After all, without pond mud in the pot, the bowl lotus cannot obtain nutrients from the soil, so using a little nutrient solution appropriately can supplement some nutrients for it and lay a foundation for its growth and flowering. When the plant grows to a certain extent, under suitable care conditions, it will naturally bloom.
