What bonsai plants are suitable for placing in the living room, and is it good to grow osmanthus in a porcelain pot?
Osmanthus is a flowering plant with fragrant blooms, and it is also one of the top ten traditional famous flowers of our country. Although it is a relatively common mass-market flowering plant, there are quite a few enthusiasts who grow it as a home potted plant. And in fact, potted osmanthus is very easy to manage, and its care is very simple. As long as you can provide it with a basic growing environment, it will often grow well and bloom abundantly with a rich fragrance.
However, when growing osmanthus in pots, in order to bring out its ornamental value, we often still need to pair it with a suitable flower pot. But the flower pots on the market are dazzling in their variety, with pots of all sizes, models, shapes, textures, and colors making one's eyes blur, and finding a suitable pot is not so easy. So, is it good to grow osmanthus in a porcelain pot?
As for whether it is actually good to grow osmanthus in a porcelain pot, it mainly depends on whether its texture is good and whether it can affect the normal growth of the plant. In terms of appearance, whether in shape or in color pattern, porcelain pots are generally made very exquisitely and have very high ornamental value. But we also cannot choose too exquisite a flower pot to grow osmanthus, after all, the main subject that a potted plant needs to highlight is the osmanthus tree, not the flower pot. Generally, the flower pot should be made to pair harmoniously with the plant, so as to improve the ornamental value of the potted plant as a whole.
But this is not the main point; the main point is still whether it can cause adverse effects on the growth of osmanthus, so we also need to focus on analyzing it from the texture. In terms of material, porcelain pots generally have relatively poor permeability, being neither good for air flow nor good for water drainage. And osmanthus often requires a growing environment that is loose, breathable, and strongly water-permeable, because its root system is very well developed, so the underground part is generally rather large. If a porcelain pot is used to grow osmanthus, once excessive watering occurs, it will often bring relatively serious problems. So, what serious consequences will occur after overwatering when growing osmanthus in a porcelain pot?
First, using a porcelain pot goes against the growth habits of osmanthus. Once water accumulates in the pot, the porcelain pot cannot promptly drain the excess water out, and coupled with its poor air permeability, the accumulated water will collect at the bottom of the pot. And a large number of osmanthus roots will be submerged in the accumulated water at the bottom of the pot, thereby causing root suffocation, and over time it will suffocate the roots to death and lead to root rot. Everyone knows that when flowering plants develop root rot, it is rather troublesome. In mild cases, it may cause adverse phenomena such as drooping and hanging branches and leaves, wilting, and leaf drop; in severe cases, it may cause death.
Therefore, we generally do not recommend using porcelain pots to grow osmanthus in pots, after all, their air permeability and water permeability are really too poor. We would merely be single-mindedly pursuing the beauty of the pot pairing while ignoring the adverse effects on the growth of the plant. We generally recommend using earthenware pots with very good permeability to grow flowering plants like osmanthus that fear waterlogging and cannot tolerate waterlogging, except that earthenware pots are not so exquisite in appearance. Of course, we can also take both beauty and permeability into account by adopting one such method, that is, using ceramic pots or purple clay pots to grow osmanthus, which is also not bad.
