In the eyes of many hobbyists, the leaves of pot-grown bowl lotus should always float on the water surface, and standing leaves will not appear. In fact, bowl lotus will also grow standing leaves, and sometimes they can present a scene of standing out from the crowd. Of course, for most hobbyists, whether there are standing leaves seems to make little difference. But as common knowledge, we should also understand it. So, what is the difference between floating leaves and standing leaves in bowl lotus?

Actually, to distinguish the floating leaves and standing leaves of bowl lotus, we can tell them apart from the following aspects:

1. The floating leaves of bowl lotus are generally concentrated in the second to sixth leaves produced by the plant, while its standing leaves usually begin to grow from the seventh leaf. So, everyone can identify which are floating leaves and which are standing leaves by counting the leaves.

2. We can distinguish them by observing the thickness of the leaf stalks: the leaf stalks of the original floating leaves are usually relatively thin and small, while the leaf stalks of standing leaves are often relatively thick and sturdy. A careful and observant person can easily tell the two apart at a glance.

3. We can also judge from the fine thorns growing on the leaf stalks of floating leaves and standing leaves respectively: the thorns on the leaf stalks of floating leaves are often relatively few, perhaps because they are often submerged in water, while the thorns distributed on the leaf stalks of standing leaves are often relatively dense and also relatively hard. In this way, we can also distinguish the two.

4. From the appearance, the floating leaves and standing leaves of bowl lotus are also very easy to identify. When observing with the leaves spread out, floating leaves often float on the water surface and are very flat; while standing leaves usually stand upright outside the water surface, and the leaves are not as flat as floating leaves.
