Freesia has many varieties and rich flower colors, and its blooms are fragrant and showy, so it has quite high ornamental value. Perhaps you have seen freesia potted plants on many occasions, and as a potted plant for appreciation, freesia naturally has a very good beautifying effect on the environment. However, freesia is actually also widely used in flower arranging.

Freesia not only has a long flowering period, but also blooms with fragrant and showy flowers in rich colors, so many friends who like freesia, in addition to growing and keeping it as a household potted plant, often cut its flower stems into bunches and use them as cut flowers. As cut flowers, freesia can also bloom into beautiful flowers as long as they are well cared for and managed, and can also fill the whole room with fragrance.

Soil-grown freesia can usually flower for as long as several months, while when grown as cut flowers, as long as they are well managed, they can also bloom for about 2 weeks. The main factors affecting the opening of freesia cut flowers are light, temperature, water changing and so on. Especially water changing, since cut flowers need to be kept in water. That is, insert the fresh cut freesia into a glass bottle filled with an appropriate amount of clean water for care.

However, in addition to using clean water, you also need to change the water frequently; generally, the water needs to be changed once every 2-3 days. Not only that, the height of the water line is also very important. So, how high should the water level be for freesia cut flowers? Because if the water line is too high, more of the flower stem will be submerged in the water, and the leaves cannot be submerged in the water, otherwise they will rot. Therefore, if the water line is too high, we will also have to cut off more leaves from the flower stems, which to a certain extent will also speed up the wilting of the flower stems.

Moreover, the higher the water line, the more water there is in the glass bottle, and if the water is changed once every 2-3 days, it will inevitably waste a lot of water resources. Therefore, based on the above two considerations, it is generally still recommended that everyone keep the water line at a relatively low position, that is, the amount of water in the glass bottle should be relatively small. In other words, when growing freesia as cut flowers, it is suitable to keep them at a low water level, maintaining a water depth of just a few cm.

Of course, the factors affecting the opening time and flowering period of freesia cut flowers are not only the amount of water and the height of the water line, but also light and temperature, and even if necessary, a little nutrient solution needs to be dripped into the container. And keeping the temperature generally at around 13°C-18°C is more conducive to flower bud differentiation, and if the environment is relatively warmer, it is more conducive to freesia flowering; the lower the temperature, the less likely it is to flower, or at least flowering will be delayed.
