Young farmer in Mailiao persists in farming with a stubborn, earnest spirit
Are there young people in the countryside and rural villages? What can young people do when they return to the countryside and rural villages?
In today's era of rapid modern development, we often hold a big question mark, asking: what can we do back in the countryside? Where are the opportunities for young people? Amid all these doubts, we should actually step into the countryside and try to build the possibility of communication and dialogue with young people, rather than stopping at empty talk and lofty discussion.
So with this in mind, we editors gathered our courage and tried to step into the world of young people to observe and learn.
- If you're going to do it, then do it
First of all, while we still have so many doubts about the countryside and rural villages, only by actually stepping into the scene and chatting with the young people living in rural areas can we make real discoveries. With this idea in mind, we start by looking at Mailiao Township in Yunlin County. Ordinarily, as we walk through the various villages, we probably rarely see young people, let alone the possibility that young people might come back to farm in the countryside. But just as we think this way, we find it is actually not so. Why?
Because recently, while spending time at the Mailiao Container Market, we editors had the good fortune to actually chat with some young friends from Mailiao, talking about dreams, ideals and views, and began to discover that young people in the countryside have ideas different from those of urban youth, and possess even stronger resilience and persistence.

So in these several gatherings and chats between us editors and Mailiao's young people, whether with some partners at the Container Market or in several nighttime chats with Mailiao's young farmers, there are many, many stories continuously unfolding between us. But do the officials sitting up there really understand the actual needs? Do they see the real needs of the countryside? And can they create opportunities for population growth and increased employment in rural areas?
Stop repeatedly pouring relevant resources into so-called enterprises! Agriculture is the foundation of Taiwan's past social development and progress. When we want to truly solve the problems, it seems we should properly get to know this land.
