Hsinchu City Launches "Hsinchu Old Town Food Festival," Gather Together to Enjoy Delicacies on the 23rd

To promote local tourism, Hsinchu City Mayor Lin Chih-chien has vigorously promoted Hsinchu's local cuisine since taking office, beginning with the 2017 city government publication "The Mayor Takes You to Eat," exploring the city's food scene and giving this old town's alleyway cuisine a new vitality. This time, through funding subsidies from the Tourism Bureau of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications' spring travel project, the "Hsinchu Old Town Food Festival" will be held on June 23 (Sunday) from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., gathering with the public to celebrate, inviting everyone to come to Chenghuang Temple and Zhongshan Road to taste the "food equation" unique to Hsinchu City, also bringing considerable business opportunities to local specialty foods and the tourism industry.

Deputy Mayor Shen Hui-hung stated that Hsinchu City is the earliest-developed city in northern Taiwan. In addition to its profound cultural heritage, it has many distinctive traditional old shops. These old shops have accompanied many Hsinchu residents in growing up together, and many food snacks are shared memories for Hsinchu people. A snack shop you casually see on the street may have a history of more than sixty years. When citizens walk into these old shops, it is like entering a nostalgic tunnel, with the city's development trajectory appearing one by one before their eyes. It can be said that these old shops are the city's "food supply stations."

The Hsinchu City Industrial Development Department stated that this Hsinchu Old Town Food Festival hopes to mobilize the entire old town's food scene to participate together, and has specially designed the "Eat in the Old Town, Collect Stamps for Gifts" activity. A total of 128 food shops are participating in the stamp-collection activity, and 30 food stalls have specially launched limited-edition foods as givebacks to foodies. On the day of the event, with the Old Town Food Festival stamp card, spend 100 yuan or more at a participating shop to collect one stamp. Collect four stamps to redeem the "Hsinchu Old Town Food Festival Placemat Set." Limited quantities, available while supplies last.
