Flower seed storage methods, and improving weather conditions to prevent yellow leaves after moving plants indoors

Improving weather conditions to prevent yellow leaves in flowers after they are moved indoors

In the northern regions of our country, cold-sensitive flowers often develop yellow leaves after being moved indoors. There are many causes for this, but from the perspective of improving weather conditions, if it is not normal leaf senescence, the following aspects should be noted to prevent it.

1. Control watering

After moving indoors, because the space is not as open as outdoors, the amount of water transpired from the flowerpots and plant surfaces decreases somewhat. If watering continues as before at this time, root rot will occur due to overly moist potting soil, and the response of the upper part of the flower plant is yellowing leaves.

2. Adjust light

Some flowers that like strong light, such as Chinese hibiscus and Chinese rose, will develop yellow leaves due to insufficient light if they are placed in shady spots after being moved indoors. Conversely, placing shade-loving plants such as Monstera deliciosa and bird's nest fern in places with too much light will also cause the leaves to lose green and turn yellow. Therefore, the placement spots for flowers moved indoors should be adjusted reasonably.

3. Proper ventilation

A closed, stuffy environment will cause the content of ethylene, the gas that causes flower senescence, to gradually increase in the air. At this time, many flowers that are relatively sensitive to ethylene are especially prone to yellow leaves. Therefore, always maintaining good ventilation is one of the effective measures to prevent yellow leaves in indoor flowers.

4. Maintain suitable temperature

Due to unsuitable environmental temperatures, many flowers will also develop yellow leaves, especially when the temperature difference before and after flowers are moved indoors is relatively large. For example, if Rhododendron and Aglaia odorata are moved into a greenhouse only when the outdoor minimum temperature is about 5°C, and because cooling is not paid attention to, the environmental temperature is raised to about 35°C during the day, then the plants will quickly develop yellow leaves. Therefore, growers must take preventive measures for similar situations. (Source: China Agriculture Online Network)
