Fall armyworm spreads in Taiwan, Yilan and Chiayi confirmed affected, suspected case appears in Nan'ao
The fall armyworm, which has caused severe agricultural losses in various countries, was first spotted in Taiwan on the 8th at Flying Cow Ranch in Miaoli, Taiwan, China, and cases have since been reported in other counties and cities one after another, apparently spreading across the whole of Taiwan. The Yilan County Animal and Plant Disease Control Center said that on the afternoon of the 10th it received a report from a member of the public who found suspected fall armyworm larvae in a sweet corn field in Toucheng Township. Disease control personnel went to collect samples that evening and sent them for testing. The test results came out this (12th) afternoon, confirming it was the fall armyworm.
