How to Prevent Yellow Leaves After Moving Flowers Indoors

1. Control watering. After flower pots are moved indoors, because the space is not as open as outdoors, the transpiration of water from the pots and the surfaces of the plants is somewhat reduced. If you still water as before, the overly wet potting soil will cause root rot, which will turn the leaves yellow.

2. Reduce fertilizing. After flowers are moved indoors, rising temperatures will cause them to enter a stage of rapid growth. However, their absorption of fertilizer is not as great as in summer, so topdressing should be reduced or stopped to prevent yellow leaves.

3. Adjust lighting. If some flowers that like strong light, such as Chinese rose and hibiscus, are placed in shady spots after being moved indoors, the plants often develop yellow leaves. Conversely, placing shade-loving plants such as bird's nest fern and Monstera deliciosa in stronger light will also cause the leaves to lose their green color and turn yellow. The placement of indoor flowers should also be adjusted reasonably.

4. Ventilate the environment. When the environment is closed and stuffy, the ethylene content in the air gradually increases. At this time, many flowers that are relatively sensitive to ethylene will develop yellow leaves due to aging. Therefore, keeping good ventilation at all times is one of the effective measures to prevent yellow leaves in indoor flowers.

5. Maintain a suitable temperature. Due to unsuitable ambient temperatures, many flowers will also develop yellow leaves, especially when the temperature difference before and after the flowers are moved indoors is relatively large. If the outdoor minimum temperature is 5°C, and Aglaia odorata and rhododendron are moved into a greenhouse, and because no attention is paid to lowering the temperature, the daytime ambient temperature rises to 25°C, then the plants will soon develop yellow leaves. This situation also needs to be prevented. Source: Lanzhou Agricultural Information Network)
