Every year from June to September is the season when New Taipei's Healthy Three Treasures - green bamboo shoots - begin to be harvested in abundance. In order to give bamboo shoot farmers a platform for mutual exchange and to improve quality, New Taipei City will hold the "2019 New Taipei Bamboo Shoot King Championship" on June 14, and invites the public to predict which district this year's Bamboo Shoot King will come from. Lee Wen, Director-General of the New Taipei City Agriculture Department, said that New Taipei has the largest green bamboo shoot planting area in the country, about 2,328 hectares, with an output of 12,757 metric tons. Over the past few years, through the efforts of all sectors, both quality and price have remained stable, with annual output value approaching 1.7 billion yuan, making it a very important agricultural product of New Taipei City. The main production areas in New Taipei are Wugu, Bali and Sanxia, and others also include Xindian, Shenkeng, Linkou, Taishan and Pingxi. Because of their unique natural geographical environments, each production area has developed green bamboo shoots with its own distinctive local characteristics.

The New Taipei City Agriculture Department said that in order to give bamboo shoot farmers in each production area of New Taipei City a platform for mutual exchange, the city government has held the "New Taipei Bamboo Shoot King Championship" for seven consecutive years since the 102nd year of the Republic of China, and this year it is being expanded, with a total of 14 districts and 80 top growers competing together. The public is also welcome to join in predicting the New Taipei Bamboo Shoot King.
