Hsieh Chih-cheng Takes the Helm at Harvest Farm Magazine, Bringing Grassroots Agricultural Knowledge to Light
The Harvest Farm Magazine Foundation held a board meeting on the morning of the 3rd, during which Hsieh Chih-cheng was elected as the new chairman. Hsieh Chih-cheng previously served as a professor in the Department of Bio-Industrial Mechatronics Engineering and retired in 2013. He has also served as CEO of the 921 Earthquake Post-Disaster Reconstruction Foundation, Secretary-General of the Taiwan Professors Association, and a member of the Indigenous Peoples Commission of the Executive Yuan. After his election, Hsieh Chih-cheng stated that he would serve as chairman without pay, adopt "going into rural villages, giving farmers a voice" as his action guideline, and set "the value of agriculture and the grassroots knowledge of rural villages being understood and seen" as his goal for future efforts.
Hsieh Chih-cheng stated that Harvest Farm Magazine's website clearly mentions: "Harvest Farm Magazine was established for the purpose of assisting the government in promoting agriculture, serving farmers, and strengthening consumers' understanding of local agriculture, and carries out related operations in accordance with relevant laws and regulations. Whether through publications or agricultural lectures, we even bear the responsibility of promoting agricultural policies related to farmers to rural villages. With the support of government funds and all sectors, Harvest Farm Magazine has been able to play an indispensable role in modern technological society seventy years after its founding." In other words, "serving farmers and strengthening understanding of local agriculture across all sectors" has been Harvest Farm Magazine's mission since its establishment. Therefore, although Taiwan's agriculture faces severe challenges, no one has ever given up on Taiwan's agriculture, and in rural villages there are still many elderly farmers and young farmers working hard to protect this land; because of the nature of its operations, Harvest Farm Magazine gives us the opportunity to connect with this land and the wonderful people and things on it.
Hsieh Chih-cheng stated that he hopes Harvest Farm Magazine in the future can continue its founding mission of "going into rural villages," giving "farmers a voice" through various types of reporting, and also allowing the value of agriculture and the grassroots knowledge of rural villages to be understood and seen, with "Let the value of agriculture and the grassroots knowledge of rural villages be understood and seen!" as the goal for future shared efforts.
