3 fertilizing methods for potted flowers

Generally speaking, there are three commonly used fertilizing methods for home flower growing:

Base fertilizer: A method in which thoroughly decomposed fertilizer is mixed into the soil in a certain proportion during seedling raising and repotting to provide for long-term growth needs. The fertilizer is generally homemade organic fertilizer, such as decomposed cake fertilizer, bone meal, roasted sunflower seeds, etc., all of which work very well. Note that the roots of the flowers must not come into direct contact with the fertilizer, otherwise the plant can easily be burned to death by excessive fertilizer.

Topdressing: During the flower's growth period, because the pot soil is limited, the base fertilizer loses its strength after a long time and can no longer provide enough nutrients for the plant. At this point, various fertilizers must be selectively supplemented according to the needs of the flower at different growth stages. Chemical fertilizer or organic fertilizer can be used. When using chemical fertilizer, avoid the plant stems and branches and scatter it into the pot soil; or dilute the fertilizer and water the plant with it. Chemical fertilizer is simple to use and takes effect quickly, but prolonged use will make the pot soil compact and give the soil poor air permeability. Homemade organic fertilizer, however, has more complete nutrients, lasts longer, and can also improve the soil. Here it is recommended to use more organic fertilizer and as little chemical fertilizer as possible. When using organic fertilizer, you can dilute Xinguozhimmo plus Huaduozhuangdiling with water and spray it, or bury it shallowly around the plant, also avoiding the roots and stems.

Foliar feeding: This method can promptly rescue plants that show signs such as malnutrition due to neglected management. It is convenient, quick, economical and effective. For flowers grown at home, they are generally divided into indoor and outdoor types. It is recommended to use indoor potted flower and plant freshness fertilizer for indoor flowers; outdoor potted flower and plant freshness fertilizer can be used for outdoor flowers. The method is to dilute the fertilizer to a certain proportion, then use a sprayer to spray it directly on the leaf surface of the plant, where it is absorbed through the leaves.

In addition, during fertilization, attention must also be paid to timing: when topdressing and foliar feeding, do it when the soil in the pot is dry, as the plant's absorption effect is best at this time. Before fertilizing, the soil should also be loosened first, so as to help the fertilizer water quickly seep down and reduce fertilizer loss. (Heilong)
