Control methods for whiteflies on common flowers and notes on rehydration for edible fungi
Whiteflies are a very widely distributed pest in open fields and greenhouses. They damage many flowers such as jasmine, orchids, scarlet sage, Chinese rose, peony, and Chinese hibiscus.
Damage characteristics: Adults and nymphs mainly gather on the undersides of host plant leaves, piercing and sucking sap, causing leaves to curl, lose green color and turn yellow, or even dry up. In addition, they can secrete honeydew, inducing sooty mold.
Occurrence pattern: They can reproduce year-round in greenhouses. Outside greenhouses, they can occur from May to October, with more occurring in July and August.
Control methods:
(1) Strengthen quarantine during plant transport.
(2) Whiteflies especially like yellow, so yellow sticky traps can be used to trap and kill them.
(3) Chemical control.
① In greenhouses or enclosed spaces, dichlorvos can be used for fumigation to kill insects.
② Use 600-800 times dilution of Jishijing, 3% acetamiprid emulsifiable concentrate at 2000-2500 times dilution, 10% chlorfenapyr (trade name Chujin) suspension concentrate at 2000-4000 times dilution, 25% buprofezin (trade name Pujiling) wettable powder at 1500-2000 times dilution, etc. for spray control.
