Techniques for Cold Resistance and Disaster Relief of Open-field Flowers and Nursery Stock

(1) Functions and Uses

Most flowers and nursery stock grown in the open field are relatively cold-tolerant. After heavy snow and freezing rain, mainly the aboveground parts are frozen. By using small arched sheds to block rain and snow, gradually raising the temperature, and implementing techniques such as pruning and fertilizing, the growth of flowers and nursery stock is promoted.

(2) Technical Introduction

1. De-icing and heat preservation. Remove ice and frost from the plants in a timely manner (gently shake them, or lightly tap them with a soft bamboo tip to knock the ice off, but do not beat the branches and leaves), and earth up the soil. Cover with plastic film, rice straw, or rice husks to preserve heat.

2. Strengthen field management. Open ditches for drainage. After the temperature steadily rises, carry out pruning and trimming, cutting off the frozen parts to promote the sprouting of new shoots. After the soil thaws, carry out shallow plowing and fertilizing in early spring, apply quick-acting nitrogen fertilizer as a top dressing, and appropriately supplement phosphorus and potassium fertilizer. A foliar top dressing of 1% urea + 0.2% potassium dihydrogen phosphate can be used to help the plants regain vitality as quickly as possible, improve their cold resistance and lodging resistance, and promote bud germination and new shoot growth.
