The amusing tale of a rock band growing bananas: tending them is like raising a granddaughter, harvesting them is like catching a wild boar
(Continued from previous article) "Tsing Chiao Banana" drummer Huang Tang-hsuan is the most laughter-prone of the musicians and the one who radiates the freest spirit. These days he spends most of his time in Taipei, and as long as he can play music, everything is negotiable for him! Recalling the days when "Tsing Chiao Banana" first formed back in high school, he laughed as he spoke: "We didn't grow up trained in music, so our playing ability back then was really pretty bad. But we're different from other people, we dare to do the things we want to do."
The "different" that Tang-hsuan speaks of is, plainly put, that every single member of "Tsing Chiao Banana" is bold and impulsive, all of them have many things they want to do, and that really is why they wear so many hats. Lead singer Wang Chi-wei, known to all as Lao Wang, has the most wild ideas, writes articles, writes proposals, gives talks, joins panel discussions, serves as a judge, and never has a break from all kinds of invitations; bassist Wang Chi-chiang is Lao Wang's own brother, and he has a cute nickname, "Toy Gun." His skill at leading a group is unmatched, and he is the best tour guide for rural mini-trips.
Guitarist Kuo Ho-yuan usually does not talk much and often unknowingly purses his lips with a stern look on his face, but the moment he breaks into a smile, his phoenix eyes lift and he is simply brimming with youth. When it comes to the plumbing, electrical work, carpentry, venue upkeep or equipment repairs for any "Tsing Chiao Banana" event, there is no job that can stump him. Most impressive of all, he can head out at 5:30 every morning in the pre-dawn dark, ride his motorcycle to the fields and do banana work.
