The Emergency Operation Center said late at night on the 30th that North Korea notified the OIE on the 30th of an African swine fever case, making it the 5th country in Asia to have an African swine fever outbreak after China, Mongolia, Vietnam and Cambodia, and the first country in Northeast Asia to have an outbreak. The first case of African swine fever in North Korea occurred at a pig farm in Chagang-Do Province in the central-west, which raised 99 pigs, of which 77 fell ill and died, with a mortality rate of 100%, and the remaining 22 were culled. There are no direct flights between Taiwan and North Korea, but passenger flow between Taiwan and South Korea is extremely frequent. Although South Korea currently has no African swine fever outbreak, because it has no clear geographical boundary with North Korea, it was listed as a high-risk area by the Emergency Operation Center at the first opportunity. Airports already conduct 100% inspection of checked baggage, and carry-on baggage of passengers from high-risk areas must also undergo 100% inspection. At present, China, Hong Kong, Macao, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar, Thailand, and South Korea are on the high-risk area list.
Chen Chi-chung, Chairman of the Council of Agriculture, also posted on Facebook late at night on the 30th, reminding that starting from the 31st, all baggage on flights from South Korea will be subject to 100% inspection.
