2019 Taoyuan Eid al-Fitr Makes a Grand Debut

The "2019 Taoyuan Eid al-Fitr," organized by the Taoyuan City Department of Labor, will make its grand debut on June 5 (Wednesday) at the "Jianguo Yunlin Neighborhood Joint Assembly Hall" behind Taoyuan Railway Station. The ceremony will begin at 7 o'clock. Imam Ma Xiaoqi, chairman of the International Muslim Tourism Industry Joint Development Association, will lead the prayers and deliver a sermon on the Quran. Muslim friends and the public are welcome to attend the grand event and share in the Eid al-Fitr celebration.

Ramadan 2019 began on May 6, and with only a few days left until Eid al-Fitr, the Taoyuan City Department of Labor, following the enthusiastic response to last year's Taoyuan Eid al-Fitr, has moved this year's venue to the "Jianguo Yunlin Neighborhood Joint Assembly Hall" behind Taoyuan Railway Station. The well-equipped indoor prayer space and ablution facilities, the convenient transportation, and the surrounding Southeast Asian commercial district all give the Eid al-Fitr celebration a stronger festive atmosphere.

In Islam, the ninth month of the Hijri calendar is Ramadan, during which all adult Muslims in good health must fast for the entire month, refraining from eating, drinking, smoking, alcohol, and entertainment from before dawn until sunset each day. The first day of the tenth month of the Hijri calendar is Eid al-Fitr, celebrating the successful completion of a month of fasting. The Muslim prayer is called the "Eid prayer." Men and women, young and old, must bathe and purify themselves before participating. After the ceremony, they visit relatives and friends to exchange greetings of peace and blessings, much like celebrating the New Year. Therefore, the festivities of the "2019 Taoyuan Eid al-Fitr" include prayers, sermon blessings, and sharing of refreshments. The Taoyuan City Department of Labor has also specifically chosen the conveniently located "Jianguo Yunlin Neighborhood Joint Assembly Hall" behind Taoyuan Railway Station, with a well-planned indoor space, so that participating Muslim friends are protected from the sun and rain.
