Superfood kale, now available on farms in Taiwan, China! Feather-shaped leaves, antioxidant-rich with lutein and beta-carotene

Kale, hailed abroad as a "superfood," can now be found on farms in Taiwan, China! Rich in lutein, beta-carotene and sulfur-containing compounds, kale is a common and popular vegetable overseas. Blending it into a smoothie for breakfast or tossing it into a fresh salad are both very popular ways to eat it. This trend has swept into the country in recent years, but kale is mostly available only in high-end supermarkets, and almost all of it is imported.

Xietong Ecological Farm in Hongxiang Tribe, Ren'ai Township, Nantou has spent the past three years growing kale. Deep green, with curled edges and feather-like shapes, this kale matches imported varieties in both appearance and taste. It is currently sold at specific markets in Taipei and will soon be stocked in organic retail channels, offering more diverse options for domestically grown vegetables.

Xietong Ecological Farm currently cultivates two fen of land with kale, supplying an average of about 50 kg per week. It mainly works with restaurants and shops at present. For the general public wanting to buy some, it can be purchased at the Zhenqi Douyan stall at Shidong Market in Tianmu, Taipei, and there are also plans to sell it through the Liren channel. The price is about 250 yuan per 500 grams. Su Yi'an says that if farmers want to grow it, Xietong Ecological Farm can play a supporting role, sharing experience from soil to field cultivation.
