EPA calls on households to buy food waste processors: not throwing out food waste makes you a disease-prevention hero
In response to the African swine fever crisis, the Central Emergency Operation Center requires pig farms that feed food waste to have food waste cooking equipment. At present, food waste-feeding pig farms have plummeted from 1981 to 744. However, about 2000 metric tons of cooked food waste is produced nationwide every day, making food waste disposal a difficult problem. The EPA held a press conference today (the 16th) and said that 1.02476 billion yuan has been approved to subsidize local governments for food waste equipment, to be used for composting, with the future goal of moving further toward biomass power generation.
A large part of the domestic cooked food waste comes from household food waste collected by cleaning crews. Li Jianyu, director-general of the EPA's Environmental Inspection Corps, estimated that with a household food waste processor costing an average of 100 yuan per month, people can process food waste at home without having to chase the garbage truck, and the nutrients can be used to grow flowers, vegetables and so on, achieving circular use. "Just like buying a reusable cup, some people choose to give a little more to the environment; it depends on how people view environmental value."
