Taoyuan Mayor Cheng Wen-tsan: 2019 Taoyuan Minnan Culture Festival kicks off on June 8

Taoyuan Mayor Cheng Wen-tsan presided over a municipal meeting on the morning of yesterday (the 10th) and heard a special report from the Department of Cultural Affairs on the "2019 Taoyuan Minnan Culture Festival." Mayor Cheng Wen-tsan said that since the Taoyuan Minnan Culture Festival was first held in 2012, it has now entered its seventh year. The series of events of the 2019 Taoyuan Minnan Culture Festival will run from June 8 to July 8 of this year (the 108th year of the Republic of China), and will be held across the districts of Taoyuan City. Featured activities include the Master Chef Competition, folk art performances, the Taoyuan traditional live-person Yige street parade, the Minnan Culture Academy, the Taiwanese musical "Chuan'er," and international team exchanges with invited groups from Malaysia and Singapore. The activities are diverse and spread throughout all districts of Taoyuan, requiring close coordination among all city government units and district offices to do a good job in activity experience, publicity, traffic control, environmental cleaning, and other work, so that citizens and friends can not only appreciate Minnan culture but also have a great participatory experience, allowing Taoyuan's Minnan culture to develop sustainably.

Chuang Hsiu-mei, Director-General of the Taoyuan Department of Cultural Affairs, said that the 2019 Taoyuan Minnan Culture Festival has six major curatorial pillars, including combining civil society forces to participate in the promotion of Minnan culture, promoting distinctive traditional folk festivals, carrying out Minnan language promotion, promoting culinary experiences through the Master Chef Competition, providing modern performing arts, and inviting the Singapore Chinatown Dragon and Lion Sports Association and the Malaysia Kuan Seng Gong Dragon and Lion Troupe for international exchange, jointly creating highlights such as Taoyuan's multiculturalism. On June 5 of this year (the 108th year of the Republic of China), the 2019 Minnan Culture Festival opening press conference will be held, and the series of events will also unfold from June 8 to July 8. It is hoped that traditional Minnan cultural elements can be perfectly integrated to make the activities even more wonderful. The overall content of the activities is quite rich, and it is believed that it can showcase the various features of Taoyuan's Minnan culture and promote city marketing.
