Thai ChaNee Durian Variety Characteristics and Flavor Introduction
“ChaNee” refers to the gibbon of Thailand, belonging to the Luang variety group. It is an early variety, bearing fruit 4-6 years after planting. The fruit weighs 2-4.5 kg, oval to broadly cylindrical, slightly lobed and grayish-brown. The peduncle is thick and medium-long, the rind is brownish-yellow, thin and blunt, with large and wide spines. Each locule has 3-4 arils. The bright yellow flesh is thick, fine in texture, firm, creamy and smooth, sweet, with excellent taste. The flesh ripens uniformly. Disadvantages include high flesh fiber, frequent physiological disorders, wateriness at maturity, poor fruit set, and susceptibility to Phytophthora and fruit borers.
This is a popular Thai durian. The fruit looks like a gibbon hanging from a tree.
