Introduction to the characteristics of Thai Monthong durian, how much is it per jin, is it expensive?
Durian is a Southeast Asian fruit, most popular in Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore and the Philippines.
Many durian trees are large and can grow to a height of 20-50 m. Durian has many different species and cultivars, some with a more pronounced flavor, while others are milder and less pungent.
Thai Monthong durian is the most important and most famous durian variety in Thailand. In Thai it means “golden pillow”. It produces large, elongated oval-cylindrical fruit that tapers at the end of the style. The large fruit has a distinct beak, lobes, and yellowish-brown color, each weighing about 2-6 kg. The peduncle is thick and medium-long, and the rind is thick, covered with sharp, pointed, small, conical, dense spines. Each fruit has 10-15 arils and many small, shrunken (aborted) seeds. Each locule usually has 3 large, thick, creamy, smooth, pale-yellow arils. The pulp has a mild odor and excellent quality, the edible portion accounts for more than 30%, and there are few physiological disorders.
This variety is very suitable for processing into preserved frozen pulp. It bears fruit after 8 years of planting. Its poor fruit characteristics include coarse flesh, high fiber, and flesh that shows uneven ripening. It is sensitive to Phytophthora.
Its price among the durians sold on the market is relatively cheap, generally around 15 yuan, and sometimes above 20 yuan.
