This March, the Taiwan GMO-Free Promotion Alliance was invited to Chiba Prefecture, Japan, to attend the annual Japan GMO FREE ZONE National Exchange Gathering, where they joined more than 300 advocates and consumer representatives concerned about agricultural production, food safety, and bioethics to discuss how to face the impact of the new generation of gene-editing technology and protect children's future.

Immediately afterward, we traveled dustily across most of Japan to Hyogo Prefecture, and within just three days visited Ashiya City Yamate Elementary and Junior High School, the Hyogo Prefectural Board of Education, the School Lunch and Dietary Education Support Center, and the 2018 National School Lunch Koshien winning team - Yabu City School Lunch Center - learning from policy formulation, ingredient supply, lunch menus, and dietary education how Japan uses nationwide efforts to ensure children's food safety and pass on local culture.
