Pingtung County Magistrate Pan Meng-an becomes a super salesman, marketing pineapple and onions

The Pingtung County Government held the "Pineapple and Onion Flower Dance Picnic Fun" event at the County Residents' Park on the afternoon of the 24th, attracting over a thousand people. Pingtung County Magistrate Pan Meng-an not only livestreamed with local mothers from Hengchun on Facebook to teach netizens how to make onion dishes, but also personally attended the picnic event, acting as a super salesman and inviting everyone to taste the season's delicious flavors. In addition to booths selling pineapples and onions, woven ornament and pineapple-onion pizza parent-child DIY activities also added extra fun to the picnic event.

Magistrate Pan Meng-an said that starting in March, Pingtung County's important agricultural products, onions and pineapples, are in season. Pingtung's onion area totals 607 hectares, the largest in Taiwan. During the growing period, onions in the Hengchun Peninsula are strongly buffeted by mountain winds, which concentrates nutrients in the bulbs and makes the onions from the production areas plump, sweet, juicy and rich in nutrients. Pingtung pineapple is also Taiwan's largest production area, with 3,455 hectares. Because Pingtung's climate and soil are very suitable for pineapple cultivation, in addition to high yields, the quality is of course especially excellent. In the future, the county government will also expand the pineapple market to the Middle East and North America.

"Every year in March and April, harvesting onions is the most distinctive sight on the Hengchun Peninsula!" Magistrate Pan Meng-an pointed out that onions are an important and distinctive crop in Pingtung, mainly concentrated in Fangshan, Checheng and Hengchun. In order to make these high-quality onions more recognizable on the market, the county government specifically guided farmers' associations in the production areas to register a collective trademark for the place of origin, paired with "Pingtung Good Products" to clearly indicate that they come from Pingtung onions. He hopes that when people from all over the country travel to Pingtung, they will definitely bring home the freshest and highest-quality souvenirs.
