So, why does Clivia not bloom?

1. To keep Clivia from growing leggy leaves and make it bloom early, you need to pay attention in ordinary care: control nitrogen fertilizer and increase phosphorus and potassium fertilizer. On the basis of preparing fertile culture soil, fertilize scientifically; too much nitrogen fertilizer means it only grows leaves and does not bloom. Especially when the leaves on one side reach 10, controlling nitrogen and increasing phosphorus and potassium fertilizer can promote earlier flowering.

2. Light is also very important for Clivia; you should achieve "avoid strong light in summer, let light through in spring and autumn, and give long light in winter". In hot summer, place the pot in a cool, ventilated place, shade appropriately, and prevent sunlight from scorching it; from early October in autumn, gradually increase light exposure; in winter, place it in a sunny spot in a greenhouse. In autumn and winter, maintain no less than 4 hours of light per day, at a temperature of 10°C to 20°C.

3. Increasing light to force flowering: on the basis of strengthening fertilizer and water regulation, adopt variable temperature and increased light treatment. Control the temperature at 15°C to 18°C during the day and 8°C to 10°C at night, with 10 hours of light per day. With this temperature and light treatment, flower stems will emerge and buds will form in about 30 days, and it can bloom in about 50 days. When flower stems appear at the leaf axils, adjust the temperature to 25°C to 30°C and correspondingly increase fertilizer and water supply, which can improve flowering quality.

How many leaves must a Clivia grow before it flowers?

From the experience of scientific cultivation, we know that Clivia needs to be grown for a long time before flowering. If cultivated scientifically, after 4-5 years, when there are 12 leaves on one side, it is about to bloom; at this time its stem has reached flowering age, and at this point, control nitrogen fertilizer and increase phosphorus fertilizer and potassium fertilizer. If scientific cultivation methods are not followed, some may not even show flower buds for 9 or 10 years.
