Cyclamen cultivation methods and experience sharing
1. Sowing. When production volume is large, propagation by sowing is used. Sowing should be carried out 13 months before the flowers are needed, generally in September-October, so that the plants can bloom at New Year's Day and Spring Festival. Select large, plump seeds. Because seeds are easily infected by viruses, they should be disinfected before sowing. Soak the seeds in 0.1% mercuric chloride water for 1-2 minutes, remove them and rinse clean with water, then soak them in 10% sodium phosphate solution for 10-20 minutes, rinse clean with water again, and finally soak them in a gelatinous solution for 35-40 minutes, rinse clean with water, dry them, and then sow. If seed disinfection is not carried out, the seeds can be soaked to promote germination before sowing: first soak in cold water for 24 hours, then soak in 30°C warm water for 2-3 hours, remove the seeds and wrap them in a damp cloth, and keep them at 25°C for 2-3 days; when the seeds begin to sprout, sow them at a spacing of 1-2 cm between plants and rows, cover with 1 cm of soil, water after sowing, cover with plastic film, and provide shade. The soil should be loose, fertile, well-drained sandy loam. Keep the soil moist at all times; at 18-20°C, germination generally occurs after 30-40 days. Transplant when 1 true leaf has grown.
2. Stem cutting. For home flower growing, stem cutting propagation is usually used. The timing is either 30-40 days after blooming in spring, when the plant has recovered after a period of growth and the hot summer has not yet arrived, so the cut is not easily infected and rotted; or from late August to the end of September after the hot summer, when the plant has passed dormancy, accumulated nutrients, and is about to produce new shoots, with the strongest vitality. The corm used for stem cutting should be more than 3 cm in diameter and have more than 2 bud eyes. Divide it into several pieces according to the size of the corm and the number of bud eyes, and each piece must have 1 bud eye. Disinfect the cutting tool before cutting. Leave the corm in the original pot without moving it, and cut downward according to the planned number of pieces, deep enough to reach the roots. To prevent the tuber from becoming infected, stop watering 1 day before cutting so that there is no moisture on the corm and the surface of the potting soil. After cutting, use a knife to pry open a gap along the cut mark on the tuber, and fill it with finely sieved plant ash or charcoal powder; this can both prevent the cut from rotting and keep the cut from closing again. After disinfection, stop watering for 1-2 days to keep the wound dry. When watering afterward, pour from the side, and do not splash water into the cut. After about 15 days, enter normal management. For cuttings made before the hot summer, divide and plant before the dog days; for cuttings made after the dog days, divide and plant after new shoots have sprouted in the shade. When dividing and planting, take the plant out of the pot with the soil ball, gently separate the stem pieces and potting soil from top to bottom along the cut marks on the corm, plant them separately in new pots, fill with growing medium, firm it, water once thoroughly, and place in a shaded place for care for several days before entering normal management.
Cyclamen plants have small, brilliantly red flowers and are very beautiful. Many friends grow cyclamen on their balconies at home, so how do you grow cyclamen? What are the cultivation methods for cyclamen? This is a question for owners who do not know how to grow cyclamen. Cyclamen has strict requirements for light and water. The following is a detailed introduction to cyclamen cultivation methods.
Cyclamen likes ample sunlight and a warm, humid environment, and dislikes heat and waterlogging. The most suitable temperature is 20°C; around 20°C is acceptable. Above 30°C it easily sheds leaves and enters dormancy, and below that the corm is prone to freezing damage, so the best growing environment for cyclamen in winter is a greenhouse. It requires loose, fertile, well-drained soil.
How do you grow cyclamen? Steps of cyclamen cultivation methods:
1. Select plump seeds: choose plump, glossy brown seeds and treat them. Place the seeds in water at about 30°C with added Xin Gao Zhi Mo, which can be mixed with seed coating agents, can repel underground pests and diseases, isolate viral infection, does not affect the imbibition function for germination, strengthens respiration intensity, and improves the seed germination rate. Soak in water for 3-4 hours, then sow. Compared with seeds not soaked, they bloom about 10 days earlier.
2. Management during the growth process: Cyclamen is a moisture-loving plant that fears waterlogging. Too much water is not conducive to its growth and development and may even cause root rot and death, so reasonable watering is crucial. Therefore, keeping the soil moist every day is enough, and the amount of water should not be too large. Apply more fertilizer. Cyclamen is also a fertilizer-loving plant. First, start with the soil and apply fertilizer reasonably according to the needs of the plant, which can make it bloom 15-20 days earlier. Spray Xin Gao Zhi Mo to preserve fertilizer and moisture.
3. Control of temperature and light: Cyclamen is very sensitive to temperature and is not tolerant of high temperatures. Around 20°C during the day is suitable for growth, and around 10°C at night is suitable; during the seedling stage the temperature can be slightly lower. Cyclamen likes sunlight, and extending the light duration can promote earlier flowering. Therefore, cyclamen should be placed in a sunny place for care.
4. Management during the flowering period: When the young buds of cyclamen appear, in addition to giving sufficient sunlight, spray Hua Duo Zhuang Di Ling, which can promote sturdy buds, larger petals, brighter flower color, richer fragrance, and a longer flowering period.
5. Prevent diseases and pests: Cyclamen has more diseases than pests. Common problems in cyclamen care include:
① Gray mold, whose main symptom is water-soaked small spots 1-2 mm in diameter at the diseased site, which later gradually expand and become brown rot.
② Soft rot, mostly caused by bacterial infection. The diseased part becomes soft and rotten, and the affected site is mostly the corm. Spraying targeted drugs plus Xin Gao Zhi Mo greatly increases the effective ingredient rate of the pesticide.
