Big banana export order to Japan nearly equals five years' total volume; how did the Council of Agriculture persuade Japan?
Taiwan's agricultural products achieved great results at the Foodex Japan international food exhibition in Tokyo, including a banana contract for 10,000 metric tons worth 500 million, nearly the total volume exported to Japan over the past five years. Seafood products also signed 1.8 billion in orders. Council of Agriculture Minister Chen Chi-chung said that in the future it will fully integrate domestic agricultural export platforms, with the goal of increasing export volume by 10% each year, and this year's (ROC year 108) export target is 6 billion US dollars.
Chen Chi-chung said that when Japanese people saw Taiwan's honey dates, which looked as beautiful as apples, they were all amazed. No other country in the world can produce more than 30 kinds of fruit like Taiwan, from tropical to cold zones, and the quality is excellent. Export is only one part of boosting agriculture; domestic demand is also very important. "In the past year or two, agriculture has become everyone's agriculture. When everyone cares about agriculture, please eat more domestic agricultural products."
News background: In ROC year 107, the total value of Taiwan's agricultural exports was about 5,463,332,000 US dollars, of which Japan accounted for 922,489,000 US dollars (about 28,135,914,000 New Taiwan dollars), accounting for 16.9% of total export value.
