How to grow and care for lucky bamboo, and what to do when the leaves turn yellow?
In fact, for people growing lucky bamboo, many reasons can cause its leaves to turn yellow, and the main ones can be divided into three aspects: water, light and fertilizer. Going to either extreme in any of these aspects can cause its leaves to turn yellow. Let us first look at the reason of water.
Water yellowness and drought yellowness
This can be understood literally, but to tell whether the leaves show water yellowness or drought yellowness you still need to look carefully at the different symptoms on the leaves to judge. Water yellowness shows on the young leaves, while the old leaves will not turn yellow; drought yellowness is just the opposite, with the old leaves turning yellow while the new leaves are fine. Once you have determined this, you can increase or reduce water according to the cause of the yellowing.
Scorch yellowness and light-deficiency yellowness
Similarly, too much or too little light intensity can also cause leaves to turn yellow. Yellowing caused by too much light is called scorch yellowness, and its symptom is yellow patches on the part of the leaf facing the light; yellowing caused by insufficient light, where chlorophyll cannot be synthesized enough, is called light-deficiency yellowness, with the whole plant's leaves turning yellow and falling off, which can be avoided simply by strengthening the light.
Fertilizer yellowness and fertilizer-deficiency yellowness
The growth of any plant requires fertilizer, it is just that artificially cultivated ones are more delicate, and how much fertilizer is applied has a great effect on the plant's growth. Applying just the right amount of fertilizer makes the plant grow vigorously, but too much or too little will cause things like lucky bamboo leaves turning yellow. Too much fertilizer makes the surface of new leaves thick and lusterless, and the old leaves scorched yellow and falling off, so the fertilizer should be washed out and removed; insufficient fertilizer makes the young leaves become lighter in color and the old leaves gradually turn yellow, so apply a thin fertilizer.
Lucky bamboo leaves turning yellow is caused by the above individual reasons, and after people renovate they can use it to absorb bad things in the air. But lucky bamboo likes high temperatures, and when the winter temperature is below 8°C, insulation measures should be added to help lucky bamboo overwinter safely.
