Jasmine cultivation methods and planting techniques
Introduction: I personally am especially fond of the fragrance of jasmine. Among the many kinds of floral scents, those of jasmine and wintersweet are the freshest and most elegant. Of course, besides jasmine, there may be many uncommon flowers with unique fragrances. Here we will mainly look at jasmine cultivation methods and planting techniques, so that you can take the best care of it while growing it.
Jasmine cultivation methods: In midsummer, water in the morning and evening every day; if the air is dry, supplemental misting is needed. During the winter dormant period, watering must be controlled; if the potting soil is too wet, it will cause root rot, or jasmine propagation is mostly done by cuttings, and also by layering or division. After repotting in spring, pinch and shape frequently; after the peak flowering period, prune heavily to encourage new shoots, so the plant stays neat and robust and blooms abundantly.
For jasmine cutting propagation, carried out from April to October, select mature 1-year-old branches, cut them into cuttings with more than two nodes, remove the lower leaves, insert them in a cutting bed of half sand and half soil, cover with plastic film, maintain relatively high air humidity, and roots form after about 40-60 days. For jasmine layering propagation, select a relatively long branch, gently wound it below a node, bury it in a small pot filled with sandy soil, keep it moist regularly, rooting begins in 20-30 days, and after 2 months it can be cut away from the mother plant as a seedling and planted separately.
Watering and fertilizing: The watering principle for jasmine is "do not water until dry, and when you water, water thoroughly." After potting, water once thoroughly. In spring and autumn, depending on the weather, generally water once every 2-3 days, and mist daily to keep the air moist. In summer, mist once every morning and water once after 4 p.m. In winter, reduce watering in the greenhouse, otherwise root rot easily occurs.
Jasmine likes fertilizer. One month after being moved out, you can begin watering with alum fertilizer water. As the weather warms and the plant's growth vigor increases, the fertilizer water concentration can gradually be increased, and in the rainy season dry fertilizer can be applied. Before and during flowering, phosphorus and potassium fertilizer can be applied as a top dressing to promote abundant flowers and fragrant scent. Apply top dressing once after each flush of flowers. Stop top dressing during the peak flowering period.
