How to grow spider plant in water? Learn these few steps to grow it easily
Growing spider plants in water is very popular now, and many people keep a pot of it at home. I believe many people want to know how to grow spider plant in water, so let's take a look together below!
How to grow spider plant in water
1. Container selection. There are many kinds of containers for hydroponic plants. By material, there are peat containers, porcelain containers, glass containers, plastic containers, etc. By light transmittance, they can be divided into light-transmitting containers, opaque containers, and semi-light-transmitting containers, etc. The pure white roots of spider plant can be enjoyed for their beauty, so we choose a transparent glass container.
2. Nutrient solution preparation. Long-term practical experience shows: add 1.8g calcium nitrate, 0.187g ammonium sulfate, 0.62g monopotassium phosphate, 0.54g magnesium sulfate, 0.62g potassium chloride, and 0.0278g ferrous phosphate per liter. After dissolving, dilute with water to 1L and mix evenly. This culture solution can effectively provide the nutrients needed by spider plant and is a relatively good culture solution, with more advantages compared with finished culture solutions on the market.
3. Handling the spider plant. To grow spider plant in water, we need to handle the spider plant plants dug out from the soil. First dig the spider plant out of the soil, wash the soil off the roots with water, then cut off old and rotten roots, keep the fibrous roots, and also clean up diseased leaves, keeping healthy and tender leaves. It is best to wash the dust and soil off the leaf surfaces with clean water, and be careful to keep the leaves intact without causing damage to the leaves.
4. Fixing in place. Insert the handled spider plant into the bottle, and fix it with materials such as glass balls or stones. Be careful to ensure that the spider plant can stand upright in the glass container, do not let the plant become crooked, and at the same time ensure that the spider plant can remain upright when moved or when the wind blows. While fixing the root system, be careful to keep the root system intact, do not damage the roots, and also be careful to spread the roots around the container.
5. Management and care. After putting it into the container, place the spider plant indoors or in a shady place. Pay attention to humidity and sunlight adjustment; do not expose it to strong sunlight in summer, and also pay attention to adjusting the position so that the spider plant can receive enough sunlight during the day. Pay attention to keeping the room temperature between 21 and 28 degrees Celsius, and do not let the temperature difference be too large.
6. Replacing the culture solution. For container hydroponics, add water and replace the nutrient solution about every 7 days. At this time, the nutrient solution replaced can be common hydroponic nutrient solution on the market or a special nutrient solution for spider plant. Of course, it is best to use the nutrient solution we prepared above. Pay attention to replacing it in time, keep the water clean, and when necessary, wash the spider plant roots when replacing the nutrient solution.
Spider plant hydroponic care knowledge
Change the water once every 2-3 days. For those changed from soil culture to water culture, some roots will rot in the early stage, and they need to be cut off when changing the water, and disinfection is best. When new water roots are 3-5 cm long, nutrient solution needs to be added to the water, and the amount does not need to be large.
The care environment is best with scattered light; it should not be too shady or exposed to the sun. If the leaf tips are dry, prune them in time.
① Water: For cultivation in a single-layer container bottle, add water and flower nutrient solution once every 4 days, and input the water through the straw until it is full. For a double-layer bottle, change the water once a week. When changing the water, pour out the bottle water, wash the container bottle clean, fill it with clean water and flower nutrient solution, and then place the plastic sieve on the water bottle.
② Fertilizer: Add flower nutrient solution through adding water and changing water in the roots. For root topdressing, spray the branches and leaves once every 3 days with diluted flower nutrient solution.
③ Pest and disease control: If pests or diseases are found, spray the leaves with all-purpose powder mixed with water.
④ Promoting flowering: Spider plant blooms half a year after potting. When blooming, do not spray water on the flowers, to prevent premature flower drop. After the flowers wither, cut the flowers off from the branch tips to promote reblooming.
