How to care for a money tree? Learn the correct care methods
Many friends are not particularly familiar with how to care for a money tree, and problems always come up during growing. So how should we care for a money tree? Today I will give everyone a brief introduction, let us take a look together.
The benefits of an indoor money tree
First, as a common household potted plant, the main reason the money tree is popular is that it is beautiful and has a lovely shape. The money tree can also be grown from seed by sprouting it yourself, so while it is a seedling you can shape it into different forms according to your own preferences.
Second, the money tree has a very good purifying effect; it can absorb and purify harmful substances in the air such as formaldehyde, sulfur and benzene. One thing to note: the money tree absorbs oxygen and releases carbon dioxide at night, and the plant is also fairly large. Therefore, it is best not to place it in the bedroom.
Finally, because the money tree has an auspicious name, it also has a very good wealth-attracting effect in feng shui. This is also the reason some commercial places choose it.
How to grow a money tree
1. Sunlight must be appropriate
When growing a money tree, it should be placed in a spot indoors with plenty of sunlight. When placing it, note that the leaf surface should face the sunlight, and it must not be kept in shade for a long time, otherwise the branches and leaves will become twisted and deformed. It is best to spray the money tree leaves with water once every 3 to 5 days, which both helps photosynthesis and makes the branches and leaves more attractive.
2. Moderate watering
The money tree has strong adaptability to moisture; generally, whether it is watered heavily outdoors or not watered for more than ten days indoors, waterlogging and drought will not occur, but watering is still an important part of growing a money tree. If the amount of water is too little, branch and leaf development tends to stall; if the amount of water is too much, the roots may rot and the plant may die; if the amount of water is moderate, the branches and leaves will be thick and full.
3. How to fertilize
The money tree needs more fertilizer than other flowers and trees. When repotting, the proportion of fertilized soil can be one third. Fertilized soil includes a mixture of decayed fallen leaves, miscellaneous bone meal, bean cake residue, etc. This fertilized soil is highly effective and easy to obtain. But note that it should be fully decomposed, so as not to "burn" the leaves yellow. It is worth noting that during the money tree's growing season (that is, from May to September), a decomposed liquid fertilizer or flower-growing fertilizer should be applied once every 15 days to make its roots deep and its leaves lush.
4. Temperature and humidity
Growing a money tree has relatively high requirements for temperature and humidity. If the temperature is too low or the humidity is insufficient, leaf drop may occur; in severe cases the branches may become bare, which is bad for viewing and may also cause the plant to die.
Money tree care methods
The money tree likes a warm, humid, sunny or slightly shaded environment, and the suitable growing temperature is 18-30°C. In winter the temperature needs to reach above 5°C, otherwise frost damage easily occurs. In the depths of winter, as long as the temperature stays above 18°C and there is plenty of sunlight, it can grow as usual.
When the room temperature is below 8°C, and it is humid, dry and not ventilated, the leaves easily develop water-soaked patches and fall off with a bronze color. When the temperature is below 5°C, all the leaves fall, the tender branches lose water and dry up, and in severe cases the whole plant dies. Generally it is brought indoors to overwinter in November and taken outside after "Grain Rain". For money tree care, the money tree has strong adaptability to moisture; whether it is watered heavily outdoors or not watered for more than 10 days indoors, waterlogging and drought will not occur.
In winter the pot soil should avoid being wet and is best kept slightly moist, otherwise the leaf tips easily become scorched and withered, and the leaves may even fall off. If the room temperature is around 12°C, watering once a month is enough. The money tree grows relatively fast and has a well-developed root system, so repot it once every 2 years in late autumn or early spring. Do not water before repotting; wait until the pot soil shrinks and separates from the pot wall, then take out the plant with the soil, remove some of the compacted old soil, replace it with fertile culture soil, and replant it. In an environment with full sunlight outdoors, the money tree has short leaf nodes, wide leaves, dark green leaf color, and a thickened stem base.
